DÉCIMO LIVRO

A NEO COLONIAL REVIVAL

These are the buildings which impersonate that late nineteenth century Imperial International Style which was spare and fast. A style consisting of simplified buildings built in every tropical outpost from partially prefabricated parts, corrugated iron and sticks.

My impersonations are, however, only stylistic - my revival is in reinforced concrete and the roofs are tiled. The simple and regular grids of these buildings - where each module may contain a room, a stair, a double volume or a service space - impose an overall abstract order on them. Yet in spite of that dominant order each space accommodates to its special circumstances and this is demonstrated in the façades.
